During my internship in North Japan I was told about local ghost stories and several traditional tales by residents and colleagues. I began drawing thirty life sized interpretations inspired by Shigeru Mizuki’s compendium of Yōkai (Japanese ghosts and ghouls). The pop up exhibition was designed as a game of hide and seek (かくれんぼ) at the accomodation converted from a bath house, that encouraged visitors to search for the thirty hand-drawn monsters hidden throughout the complex.
